The City of Shelbyville’s Behavioral Health and Justice Equity Department is planning to host nationally known mental health advocate Kevin Hines (survived a suicide attempt from the Golden Gate Bridge) for a series of talks on September 3 at Shelbyville Middle School, Shelbyville High School and at a community event. Hines offers a unique perspective on mental illness, describing it as a daily battle with a brain disease, and aims to deepen understanding for those who struggle. His visit comes amid a troubling rise in suicide rates in Shelby County.
