We are receiving several messages about how to help local food pantries.
Over ten years ago, Greg Gerline established Shelby County Pantry Pals. This is a coalition designed to benefit multiple Shelby County pantries. We encourage you to watch this video where Greg is interviewed to learn more about how Pantry Pals operates.
There are several ways that you can help:
*Shelby County Schools are hosting a food drive Nov. 1-Dec. 10. Schools are either collecting food items and/or monetary donations for Pantry Pals.
*You can give monetary gifts to the Shelby County Pantry Pals Fund at Blue River Community Foundation to help the pantries buy food.
*Shelby County Public Library is collecting food items Nov. 1-30. (*If you have library fines, a donated food item will erase your fines!)
*There are transportation needs to get food to shut-ins. Contact Shelby Senior Services, Inc., The Horizon Center or Shelby County Meals on Wheels to learn how you can get involved.
*Volunteers are needed at the Gleaners Mobile Pantry distributions (Shelbyville: at Blue River Career Programs on the third Sat. of the month / 9:30am-Noon; Morristown: at 209 S Washington St. on the fourth Fri. of the month / 1-2:30pm)
*There are local businesses such as Three Sisters Books & Gifts who are collecting cash donations for Pantry Pals.
We appreciate you considering helping our food pantries! At the pantry pals meeting yesterday, it was shared that most of our pantries are experiencing double the amount of traffic from one month ago.
