Prepare for a wickedly good time at the Shelby County Public Library’s Haunted Library festival and fundraiser. The event is scheduled for Saturday, October 17.
It all begins at 6 p.m. in the Outdoor Plaza with the Youth Services Department’s FREE Haunted Library Festival. It will offer games, crafts and activities for an all-ages audience (but geared toward elementary years).
Beginning at 7 p.m., the festival will feature a free “no-boo” walkthrough hour of the Haunted Library for our guests. We encourage all our patrons to wear their costumes or festive attire! Candy will be given to youth at festival stations for a safe trick-or-treat experience.
At 8 p.m., the night switches to the adult-focused scary version of the Haunted Library. This involves the full-scare walkthrough experience for those brave enough to enter, with the last group allowed entrance at 9:30 p.m.
A ticket is only required for the adult portion of the evening. Tickets are $10 and are on sale at the front desk or online.
This is the library’s big fundraiser of the year, with proceeds going toward programming and events for 2027. It will be held rain or shine.
For more frightful fun:
Spooky-themed t-shirts will be available for purchase as part of our fundraiser. Price and date available are currently undetermined, but we expect mid-September for availability.
Oct. 6, 7 p.m.: “Tricks, No Treats” – Join Donna Dennison, Head of the Genealogy & History Department, in the Indiana Room of Carnegie East Wing as she tells tales of Halloween pranks found in the vintage newspapers.
