Mission Statement: The mission and objective are that the Youth Assistance Program serves as early intervention to advocate for youth ages 3-17 facing challenging life circumstances. We coordinate our community’s vast array of talents, services, and resources to help youth and empower parents and caregivers.

About: A voluntary program for children and their families, focusing on preventative services. Children will be referred and then evaluated and referred for services based on eligibility and need. Inclusive criteria includes Shelby County residency, between ages 3 and 17 at the time of referral, and determination of “at risk.”

Volunteer Opportunities: The mentoring program involves adult volunteers who commit to spending time with a matched child or teen for one hour per week for one year or one school year for group mentoring. The tutoring program uses adult volunteers to commit to one hour per week for one school year or longer to provide homework help for students primarily in grades K-6.

Volunteer Requirements: Volunteers are required to have a series of background checks, in-person interview, reference checks, and training prior to being matched with a mentee or providing tutoring services. Volunteers also must have access to an automobile, auto insurance, and a good driving record.
