The Shelby County Reads season officially concluded on November 7, 2022 with their annual community-wide Writing Contest Awards Ceremony where participants responded to the prompt, “A Night in the Library.” All participants got creative with their essays and told tales of book characters coming to life, monsters hiding in the basement, and labyrinths found inside of the library. The youngest entrants drew pictures to accompany their sentences. Top three winners were announced in six age categories and awarded gift cards to Three Sisters Books & Gifts.
The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek by Kim Michele Richardson was the main book title selected for 2022. The program offered author visits for the county’s sixth grade students, book discussions, and celebrated the Shelby County Public Library’s newly renovated facilities. Next year marks the 20th year for this literacy-based Nonprofit. No hints have been released as to what the community-wide read might be for this upcoming year!
