The Addison Times: Nonprofit Status Finalized

We are excited to formerly welcome, The Addison Times, to our list of Nonprofit Organizations who serve Shelby County.

The Addison Times is a member-supported local newspaper that covers city and county meetings, Shelby County students, local business, primary and general elections, commercial and residential development, and daily local history. This newspaper has served Shelby County for over a decade. The transition to becoming a nonprofit organization was finalized in 2024.

Programming Highlights for October

Oct. 3, 6:30 pm & Oct. 12, 2 pm: Fall Birch Tree Painting Create a fall birch tree painting using simple techniques with painter’s tape and straight edges. Learn to make a seasonal painting decoration for your home in this free class. Registration is requested; please call (765) 818-1718 to RSVP.

Oct. 8, 6:30 - 8 pm: Cemetery Walk at Asbury Cemetery Take a spirited historical walking tour of Asbury Cemetery, 10751 N Asbury Road, to visit the graves of some of the many interesting people buried in the cemetery’s oldest section. The tour will be led by Donna Dennison, Head of the SCPL Genealogy & History Department. Please dress appropriately for the weather and walking terrain.

Oct. 10, 1 pm - 4 pm: Tabletop Adventures: Roleplaying Games for Kids Join Librarian Cat to learn to play tabletop role-playing games! Create characters, learn game rules, and enjoy a cozy fall adventure. This event is intended for children ages 6-11.

Oct. 17, 6:30 pm & Oct. 26, 2 pm: Ghostly Thrift Shop Paintings Have a spooky good time adding ghosts to basic thrift store paintings and landscapes! Give discarded art a new outlook on life by adding the undead!

Oct. 19, 10 am: How To: Winterize & Save - Home Energy Tips Discover fall and winter home energy tips at this free class. No registration required.

Oct. 24, 6:30 pm: DIY Essential Oils Join LaDonna to make your own room refreshing and mentally calming diffusers with essential oils. Registration is requested for this free event. Call (765) 818-1718 to register.

Oct. 28, 7 pm: Morristown Literacy Council Meeting The quarterly meeting of the Morristown Literacy Council will be held to discuss upcoming literacy projects, library updates, and the upcoming Giving Tree holiday program. New attendees welcome.

Oct. 31, 5 pm - 8 pm: Halloween Party and Trick-or-Treating at the library, 127 E. Main St., Morristown. All ages welcome.

The MHP Foundation is having their Healing Hustle 5K Walk/Run and 12 & Under Fun Run on September 28, 2024!

It will start and finish at the Shelby County YMCA (2120 Intelliplex Drive Shelbyville, IN). All proceeds will go to benefit patients in need at the MHP Wound Care Center.

Here at MHP Maternity Care, we are planning our next Bump 2 Baby & Beyond event. The purpose of this free mom and baby event is to provide important health information and highlight what Shelby County has to offer in regard to women's health/pregnancy/postpartum care, community resources, early childhood development and more! The event will be held on Saturday, November 9th, 2024 from 9 am to noon at MHP Medical Center. We will be located on the second floor, in the open foyer area, near the main entrance. We would love to invite you to join us!

Shelbyville Senior Services and Girls Inc. provide services and programs to a full spectrum of youth and seniors in Shelby and surrounding counties. A collaboration between the two organizations means a broader reach to all of our supporters, awareness centered around generations, and a long-term commitment to impacting the lives from early to advanced ages within the community.
