Nonprofit Workshop: "What is your Organization's Story?" (October 24)

Julie Alvis September 14, 2023

Nonprofits, you are invited to attend an engaging and interactive workshop on Tues., October 24 from 10am-Noon at ECHO Effect Arts Campus in Shelbyville, Indiana to help you to determine "What is your Organization’s Story?" (Free to attend / RSVP Required)

More than likely, your organization has been telling a story, but is it the right one? Are you aware of what that story is, or has it evolved on its own? Does it have a focused, singular message? Is it engaging?  Is it bringing you new donors and retaining those you have? These questions and others should be the driving force behind developing your story. After all, it will do more to advance your organization than almost any other factor.

These key points will be addressed at the workshop:

  • How Stories Transcend Information

  • Finding Your Why

  • Developing Your Narrative

  • Defining Your Audience

  • Creating a Story Arc

  • The 5 C’s of a Great Story

  • Identifying Donor Keys:

Features & Benefits

Transformation Types

Outcomes

  • Ensuring effective Calls to Action

The presentation will be led by David J. Fry from Effective Management Strategies and is made possible through Blue River Community Foundation. There is no fee to attend for any charitable organization serving Shelby County.

Residents from surrounding counties are also welcome to attend. A small donation to Blue River Community Foundation from out-of-town guests is appreciated. This can be made online or paid at the event.

During lunch, a brief session about how estate gifts can be a great benefit to your nonprofit will be shared. After a successful presentation in September, MHP Foundation and Blue River Community Foundation have asked Brian Cohoon to return and speak again in Shelbyville.

If your organization is not currently advertising that you accept charitable estate gifts or if you do not really understand how estate plans work, this can be important information for you to learn and share with your donors. We realize that this topic can seem daunting or overwhelming, but Brian provides a laid-back and informative overview.

Brian is part of Thompson and Associates, a firm that works exclusively with nonprofit organizations and offers expertise in charitable estate planning strategies. Brian will not draft documents, attempt to manage money, sell any products, or ask participants to make a gift. MHP Foundation generously offers his consultation services to any interested individuals each month.

This presentation will include a Q & A time and is anticipated to last until 1pm.
