Canine Castaways Rescue, Inc.: Volunteers Needed

With more than 1,700 abandoned dogs saved from kill shelters, roadsides, abuse situations and adopted out since 2014, Canine Castaways Rescue has quietly played a pivotal role in our community by providing an alternative to euthanasia. They were recently nominated as a Shelby County Nonprofit Champion of the Year.

Canine Castaways focuses on rescuing dogs from central Indiana and regional kill shelters, some dogs sometimes within minutes of losing their life. Canine Castaways accepts all dogs: young and old, in poor health, under all conditions.

Up to 19 dogs can currently be housed at their facility with an additional 45 being fostered through our life-saving operations.

They would greatly appreciate volunteers help to complete several urgent tasks/needs at our rescue:

*  old kennels inside adoption building need to be removed and replacement kennels installed

*  fresh gravel needs to be shoveled into outdoor kennels to ensure no water puddling

*  back row of old outdoor kennels and old dog houses that are no longer required need to be removed

*  weed pulling, spraying, weed eating, and power washing.
