The Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) announced on July 6, 2023 that it has awarded $2,400 to the Shelby Community Band for Commissioning New Wind Band Music through the Arts Project Support grant program. During its June 9 Quarterly Business Meeting, the Commission approved funding recommendations for the Arts Project Support and Arts Organization Support grant programs.
Over 480 applications were reviewed by 146 panelists from around the state and country with expertise in the arts, community development, and nonprofit management.
“The projects and organizations selected to receive funding are strengthening our state,” saidAnne Penny Valentine, Chair of the Indiana Arts Commission. “The Commission is excited andhonored to invest in Hoosier communities, supporting organizations that are doing exceptionalcreative work to make Indiana a great place to live, work, play, study, and stay.”
"This is a great opportunity for us to work with local composer Peter J. Felice to create newmusic for the wind band medium. While this will be crafted with our band in mind, we hope tocontribute to the larger repertoire," said Angelo Anton, Artistic Director of the band. "We arehoping to premiere this new work to align with the solar eclipse in 2024, so it's very exciting."
